After their long uphill battle Dirty Little Rabbits are hoping to have their debut album ready for release in May, but the band are still making sure not to rush anything out as they have some lofty ambitions for their music and art.
Drummer Shawn Crahan said: “We’ve been trying real hard to get it done, but I don’t like to just... I know I’m on a schedule, but the thing for me is we’re over here touring with no album out.
“I could do this for the next year with no record, so I want things to be right. I’m going to be 60 one day, I don’t want to look back on the album cover just know that I believed it, know that it was real.”
Shawn also talked about the move in music away from having a physical product to digital stores such as iTunes, and how the medium seems to have been devalued in the process.
He added: “I work really hard to try and keep it fresh for the kids, man. They’re brainless right now, they’re just programmed and disillusional and imprinted and a little bit clueless, you know.
“It’s sad, it’s almost like a prejudice, like we’ve developed a prejudice towards a feeling of music and art. Art’s going to save us from 2012, save us from the big meteor in the sky, save us from ourselves.”
The sticksman, best known as being one of the dual percussionists in Slipknot, doesn’t expect anyone to roll over in admiration at any of his achievements thus far in his career.
Shawn explained: “I’ve given up anybody giving me props about anything. My whole career’s been a fistfight, I’ve got the X-rays to prove it.
“I don’t care anymore, I just want to know that the life I gave up is the life I earned, and rock ‘n’ roll’s it for me, I just love it, and I love it so much I don’t have to be the best at it.
“I’m not a lead singer, I like to wank on guitar but I’m not Eddie Van Halen, I’d rather just watch Eddie Van Halen. I play drums and I’ve got my little slot in the world so I like to feel that way, and we do it, that’s why we have fun onstage and we don’t care, because we’re living this rock ‘n’ roll.”
