Sharleen Spiteri has spoken of her relief that her Texas bandmate Ally McErlaine had recovered so well from a brain haemorrhage that nearly killed him.
The singer, who is releasing her second solo album The Movie Songbook on March 1, said she was devastated when her bandmate was struck down by the condition last September, and that it came completely out of the blue.
Speaking to stv.tv at a special Radio Clyde breakfast event on February 11, Sharleen revealed just how close Ally came to death, and how good it is to see him back to the way he was before.
She said: “He (Ally) was beyond seriously ill, he actually died twice. It’s great being ablet to smile and laugh about it (now), he’s right as rain. He’s out of hospital, he came out last week, a week ago on Friday, and he is doing absolutely amazing.”
The singer joked: “His posture is better now than before it happened, and you would never know that anything had happened, and he’s in good spirits and everything is all there. The wit and the sarcasm, it’s great, and I’m just so happy he’s still with us.”
Sharleen also revealed that now that Ally is back to normal again, Texas are back in the recording studio making a new album, which she hopes will be released in 2011.
