Big names: Johnny Depp will play guitar on the single

Wildman Shane MacGowan organised a gang of his rock ’n’ roll friends to put out a version of I Put A Spell On You to raise funds for the quake-hit nation. He’s now trying to get mega-star pals Keith Richards and Johnny Depp to record parts too.

A source told The Sun how the marathon recording session was fuelled by a few bottles of gin and several cases of wine.

Nick Cave, of Bad Seeds fame, Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, Chrissie Hynde from the Pretenders, New York-singer Paloma Faith, Sex Pistol Glen Matlock, Mick Jones of The Clash and Laura White from the X-Factor recorded parts of the Screamin’ Jay Hawkins classic.

A source told the paper: "It was a hilarious day.

"Loads of pizzas, Chinese and Indian food was ordered and the drink was flowing.

"The single is in the bag and it sounds fantastic."

Johnny Depp is rumoured to be recording a guitar track from the US.

MacGowan was moved to do his own song when Simon Cowell allegedly refused to let him take part his Haiti single.
