The official website of Boyzone is reporting that band member, Stephen Gately has died. He was 33 and on holiday on Majorca with his partner, Andrew. According to a report in News of the World, the singer had been out with friends, returned home, went to sleep and never woke up.
Boyzone manager, Louis Walsh who was apparently told the news after last night's live edition of The X Factor, told the News of the World that he was 'devastated' and that he last saw Stephen on Monday at an awards ceremony.
The Boyzone manager then went on to tell the newspaper: 'We don't know much of what's happened yet... we will rally round each other this week. He was a great man'.
The four remaining members of the band, who recently got back together again, are said to be flying out to Majorca today.
After Boyzone split, Stephen established himself as a solo singer, including performing as Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
Stephen Gately's own website is carrying his most recent post on Twitter where he wrote 'Still busy - lots going on. Focussing on finishing my book next so may be quiet here'.
