Acclaimed American art-pop songstress Rachael Sage is debuting at the Edinburgh Fringe this year with a healthy mix of vaudevillian shtick, "Yiddishkeit" and her signature pianistic flair…
Sequins & Shpiel: An Evening with New York’s Rachael Sage takes place from
August 7 to 11 at City Edinburgh, and promises to bring together highlights from her back catalogue, new material from forthcoming album Delancey Street and some quintessential Sage “kibitzing” (chatting).
“My shows are a rangy mix of poignant ballads, uptempo vaudeville and a smattering of Tin Pan Alley-esque pop,” said Sage. “But there’s always room to improvise story-telling, so that every show is a bit of an adventure.
“Sequins & Shpiel will include tales of my very colourful Eastern-European Jewish family, and life as a New York musician and former ballerina.”
Sage has been hailed as “one part Elton John, one part Kate Bush…” by Uncut and praised for her “warm, intelligent New York indie charm…” by Mojo. Goodness, even Terry Wogan has been won over, what more could you want?
A two-time US Independent Music Award winner, Sequins and Shpiel will represent something unique in Sage's eclectic career for audience and performer alike.
“I’ve wanted to perform at The Fringe since I was a teenager,” she admitted. “I’d always hoped to make my way to Europe organically, and after some grassroots UK touring, this is exactly what’s happening. I couldn’t be more thrilled or honoured to be part of such an exciting world-stage.”
The show takes place from August 7 to 11 from 7.45pm to 9.15pm, priced £8 (£5 for students/seniors/disabled). Tickets available in advance via the Fringe box office, as well as at the door on the night of the show.
