Biffy Clyro took a break from recording their new album to co-headline Rock Ness’s main stage on Sunday night, and also talked to STV.tv about how it felt to play their biggest gig to date.
Drummer Ben Johnston said: “It’s absolutely wonderful. We’ve been up and played Inverness a bunch of times and obviously Aberdeen and the surrounding areas, so to be asked to play so high up the bill is amazing.
“It’s such a great setting this festival, and it’s so wonderful to be a part of it.”
Of the new album that’s being recorded by the Ayrshire alt-rock trio, twin brother and bassist James Johnston explained: “We’re probably about halfway through.
“We were in Los Angeles last month, and laid down about nine songs in various states of readiness.
“We go back on Friday to finish off, perhaps do another four or five songs, but everything’s feeling really great, sounding really great, and we just can’t wait to go and finish it off and let everyone hear it.”
When asked what people can expect of the new album, James said: “Brutalism.
“We could roll out all the old clichés. You know, ‘the heavier bits are heavy and the quieter bits are quiet’. We’ve just always wanted to continue making music that we like, and that’s what we aim to do.
“I guess the best way to describe it is that we think it’s awesome.”
Ben added: “It’s like a mix of our first three independent albums but with the power of Puzzle. I think that’s my description of the day…”
