Placebo’s new album title Battle For The Sun certainly seemed applicable as the indie-rock trio struggled to cope with a chillier Highland setting at RockNess.

The band have been touring sunnier European countries previous to their Highland festival slot on Sunday.

Therefore it was little wonder than singer Brian Molko joked when asked how they were finding the weather: “Cold! Thankfully we’re playing in a tent, so that should keep the body heat and the B.O. all in one safe place.”

Speaking of new album Battle For The Sun, which they funded the recording of themselves after their previous record contact came to an end, Molko explained: “Well, we did it in Toronto, without a record company and about three, four thousand miles away from home so that nobody could interfere.

“We just felt completely free to let our ambition run riot without some A&R guy breathing down our necks, trying to figure out how many singles are on the album.

He added: “We just got on with what we believe is quite an old-school approach to making records. We made an album, and that is what we set out to do, we didn’t set out to make a collection of songs or a collection of singles either.

“So we went in to make an opus, and that opus has ended up being called Battle For The Sun.”

Always enjoyed what I heard but thought they seemed standoffish, they come across really well there though! Age has done them the power of good, think I might actually check out their new album now...
