One of Scotland’s smallest venues is set to play host to four of the country’s most established artists as it celebrates Homecoming.
Set in Mull’s main village Tobermory, the Tobermory Miniatures series of shows takes place at An Tobar.
Headliners include former Mull Historical Society main man Colin MacIntyre, who returns home to launch second solo album Island.
It features local musicians including up-and-coming artist Sorren Maclean, and was also recorded at the studio in An Tobar - a building which not so long ago used to function as MacIntyre’s former school.
“Recording actually took place in Colin’s old classroom, and the control room is what used to be his headmaster’s old office,” exclaimed Maclean.
“It’s important to me, and everyone at An Tobar, that the venue and the artists get the recognition they deserve,” he added.
“We know that as a venue, we are way out of town for Scottish media and all but local audiences, but this is a special place and we know that Tobermory Miniatures is going to be a really special event on our calendar.”
The old Victorian school building hosts Karen Matheson on June 2, The Anna Massie Band on June 9, Colin MacIntyre on June 2 and Dougie MacLean on June 23.
Gordon Maclean, An Tobar’s director said: “With only sixty seats, it will be a bit like having these great musicians perform in your living room.
“For many of the artists, it will be their smallest gig of the year. We’re really excited that they’ve chosen to celebrate Homecoming with us.”
In the spirit of Homecoming, the artists involved in Tobermory Miniatures have a strong connection with Mull and Argyll.
Some of Capercaillie’s earliest appearances were in Tobermory while Dougie MacLean - whose famous anthem Caledonia is the signature track of the Homecoming campaign - recently traced his family origins to the island.
An Tobar has supported and nurtured local and Scottish arts, commissioning new music from Lau’s Aidan O’Rourke, Michael Marra and harpist and composer Savourna Stevenson.
Its label Tob Records has released singles by Scottish musicians such as Sorren Maclean and albums by Mr McFall’s Chamber and The Dave Milligan Trio. The venue’s gallery programme also runs up to ten art exhibitions every year.
