Legendary alternative hip hop maestros De La Soul are set to bring their non-stop show to Scotland for the 20th anniversary tour of debut album 3 Feet High and Rising.
The New York based hip-hop group promise to recreate their classic tunes from the ground up with a 10-piece band when they visit Edinburgh Picture House on Friday June 5 and Glasgow at The Arches on Saturday June 6 .
Formed in 1987 after they caught the eye of renowned producer Prince Paul, the group is highly regarded for their eclectic sampling, quirky lyrics, clever witticisms, bright styling and playing a pivotal part in the evolution of jazz rap.
Their debut album 3 Feet High and Rising, released in 1989, was a critical smash and listed on Rolling Stone’s 200 Essential Rock Records, as well as American hip-hop magazine The Source’s Top 100 Best Rap Albums.
Voted album of the year by NME that year - a magazine more known for its indie-rock inclinations - the popular appeal of songs such as The Magic Number and Me, Myself and I led to them becoming huge hits, elevating the group to worldwide stardom.
More recently the group won a Grammy in 2006 for their collaboration with Gorillaz on Feel Good Inc, and this year they collaborated with Nike to release a 45-minute jogging soundtrack entitled Are you In?, which features 10 new tracks on a continuous mix.
Support at this special gig comes from up and coming Edinburgh based hip hop trio Young Fathers, the only Scottish group to make it into the 2009 NME New Band Hotlist.
