After James Morrison’s first album Undiscovered was a huge success, the pressure was on to create something even better. He explained to STV how the birth of his first daughter Elsie helped him to let it go.
“It made it easier for me having my daughter to concentrate on rather than my album, because you have to let it go and see what happens. I’d put everything I had into it. And if it wasn't successful then it wasn't. The most important thing is that you believe in it, he said.
He released the second album Songs for You, Truths for Me in September 2008 around the same time as his daughter was born. The album performed well, debuting in the top three of the UK Albums Chart and spending five weeks in the top ten.
“And I'm sounding better that I’ve ever done,” he said.
“I'm surrounded by professionals. We are tighter as a band and I'm more comfortable as a singer and a performer.”
The 25-year-old singer from Rugby went on to say how easy it is to lose perspective on what’s important in life.
“When I got signed, I was away from everything I knew. You do get sucked into the world of the music business and you either get spat back out the other end as a different person or you try to maintain what's important.”
“And for me, writing the second album was just a reminder of those things that are important, like a loving relationship.”
