What a show!
Jessica Taylor was the first celebrity voted out of Dancing on Ice, leaving Donal MacIntyre and Ray Quinn to skate the Bolero.
Donal has been the surprise star of this series, improving week on week, impressing the judges and surprising himself with the skills he developed. Tonight, he looked stunned to be in the final two and he threw his heart and soul into his performance of the iconic Bolero.
Donal was first on to the ice in tonight's show. From the flying training footage, he didn't look confident but managed to pull off a solid performance. Skating to Rocket Man by Elton John, Donal impressed the judges – well apart from Jason who awarded him 3, but Ruthie Henshall awarded him 6! 23.5 overall was a great score for Donal.
Ruthie said: “The journey you have come on, I am so glad Donal is no longer undercover.” Jason killed this comment by saying: “It was less Rocket Man and more Ricket Man.”
For his second performance Donal skated to REM's Everybody Hurts. He scored 25.5 which was his highest score ever.
But it wasn't enough, as Ray Quinn stole the show. Perhaps the best ever performer in the history of Dancing on Ice, Ray blew the judges and the audience away with his performances throughout the show.
Skating to Greatest Day by Take That, Ray's first performance was truly breathtaking. He flew with such grace, and scored a full house of 6’s. Christopher Dean said: “I think that was the best performance you’ve done.”
Ruthie Henshall added: “It was poetry in motion… you are a true star. You are the triple threat… you have the it factor.”
For Ray's next performance he skated too Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, by Starship. His lifts were perfect and he and Maria looked so relaxed, it was lovely to watch.
Another perfect score of 30 from the judges left Ray “speechless.”
Judge Robin Cousins said: “you are a quadruple threat cause you can add professional ice skater to your resume.”
With an overall score of 60 it was difficult for Donal to compete but he put up a good fight.
In the end though, the public voted for Ray and he is the winner of Dancing on Ice 2009.
Ray Quinn said: “I am absolutely speechless I have been dreaming of this moment from the beginning, the fact we did it together from the beginning, Maria’s been fantastic.”
Maria, who cried as the result was announced, added: “This is the best gift for Mother’s Day.”
