Actors Nick Frost, Tom Sturridge and Chris O’Dowd join the five thirty show on the sofa to chat about their new film The Boat that Rocked.
Set in the 1970s, the film is directed by Love Actually’s Richard Curtis and follows a group of pirate radio DJ’s who broadcast rock tracks from their makeshift station on a boat anchored off the British coast.
With British director Richard Curtis taking the helm, Hot Fuzz star Nick Frost admitted he accepted the role without reading the script.
“I said yes instantly. He wrote the role for me so I was very flattered that he would do that and I think you would be mad to turn it down,” said the star of Shaun of the Dead.
Lesser known actor Tom Sturridge, who appeared in Oscar nominated film Being Julia, said he had to convince the director to give him a role in the film.
“Nobody really knows who I am so I had to persuade Richard to allow me to be in it. I had to audition for it quite a few times and eventually he agreed,” said Sturridge.
Despite being set on a boat, much of the films interior shots were filmed in a studio using hydraulics to rock the set.
“[The set] did move like we were on the sea while we were on land,” said O’Dowd.
“Strangely we were offered seasickness tablets for the whole time we were working in the studio,” he added.
The Boat that Rocked is released in the UK on April 1.
