Ray Quinn said that he was “gutted” following his performance in last week’s Dancing on Ice. Despite coming top of the judges’ leader board, he delivered an under-par performance, so was determined to step up his mark tonight.
This week’s required element was the unassisted jump by each celebrity skater and Ray was given the most difficult of all the celebrities - the Russian Split jump. Having been shown video footage of Ice Panel head judge Robin Cousins performing the jump during the World Championships, for which he won gold, Ray set about learning his most challenging routine yet.
Dressed in black and gold stripes, Ray and professional skating partner Maria Filippov skated to the Kings of Leon track Use Somebody. They scored a total of 28 out of a possible 30 points, including a top mark of 6 from judge Ruthie Henshall.
After the performance, Ray said, “I really enjoyed that.” He also confessed that he was worried about performing the split jump live in front of Robin Cousins.
Christopher Dean told Ray that it was “a pleasure to watch.”
What did the Ice Panel have to say?
Head judge Robin Cousins (scored 5.5.) said, “The split jump was great.” He described Ray’s performance as “seamless” and “effortless.” And told Ray it was, “Amazing to watch.”
Ray and Maria were, once again, top of the judges’ leader board.
