Week eight on Dancing on Ice saw each pairing given a prop to incorporate into their routine from the selection of a chair, broom, hat, cane, feather boa and umbrella.

Judge Robin Cousins explained that the prop should be an “extension of the partnership rather than something that comes between them.”

Former X Factor finalist Ray Quinn scored 29.5 in last week’s show and a perfect 30 in week 6, so the pressure was on him to receive the full 30 again this week.

Ray and pro-skating partner Maria Filippov were given a hat as a prop and a swing number as their song (Robbie Williams’ Have You Met Miss Jones).

A small trip and a dropped hat during their routine saw Ray and Maria score a total of 26.

Ray explained afterwards that he didn’t like making errors and was “gutted” about his relatively low score.  The mark still placed them at the top of the leader board and safely through to the next round.

What did the Ice Panel think?

Jason Gardiner (scored 4.5) said that he had expected Ray to excel this week and didn’t think that they had used the prop hat as fully as they could.  The judge said that he was “disappointed.”

Karen Barber (scored 5.5) explained that she acknowledged that there were a couple of mistakes but the skating was faultless.

Head judge Robin Cousins (scored 5.5) criticised Ray for the trip during the routine and the fact that he had his hat on backwards.
