Megadeth legend Dave Mustaine has explained his thinking behind the band's new song 1,320, the first title to be confirmed on the band's new album.

Speaking to stv's John Kilbride shortly before the band took to the stage at Glasgow's SECC arena as part of the Priest Feast tour with Judas Priest, he said: "It's a song about drag racing, a quarter mile track in America is 1,320 feet long. On our website right now everyone is asking 'what the hell is 1320?'

"It's a measure of distance from the start to the finish line.

"I like adrenalin, I used to skydive, I've been into martial arts since I was 12 and there is something about adrenalin that makes me excited. I went to drag racing event one time and they had these nitro funny cars and I was hooked."

Mustaine revealed that despite rumours, there was no decision yet on the title of the album.

Asked if a title had been finalised, he joked: "It's studio release number 12...because we don't have a title yet!

"You always think of these things, and you think 'I want to have a really great title,' I'm known for having poignant titles, they are sometimes a bit cheeky, sometimes a bit critical but we're not there yet."

Dave explained why the album is taking longer than they had hoped, saying: "It's going pretty well, unfortunately due to problems with the powers-that-be in America, they messed up Andy Sneap's visa so we got pushed back a little bit.

"The problem is that even if it's one day, if you miss it by one day you've got to waits month or however long until it is recheduled.

"Fortunately for us Andy is a decent enough guy and he's meeting me in Manchester and we're going to do some stuff in the hotel room to continue working on the record so we can get it ready for the public."

But, says Dave, it will be worth the wait. "It is supposed to be released in September, I think it's a very exciting record.

"Shawn has been a fan forever, James has been with me now for several years and chris is a guitar virtuoso so when they say they are excited about  it, it is really saying something."
