German electro giants Modeselektor are set to join Glasgow band Union of Knives and club hosts Death Disco in spicing up the Glasgow Film Festival with cutting-edge music and visuals.

Jason Edwards, The Arches’ musical programme officer, said festival organisers had approached the venue with an aim to widening the scope of video-talent on show.

He said: “It’s something that hasn’t really been done before and we just thought it would be great to tie in all the things The Arches does - all the visual arts and all the live music - into one innovative festival programme.

“The Union of Knives are going to come in and do a show for us, but they’re going to have a full audio-visual (AV) show going on, as a special event in one of the smaller rooms.

“We’re trying to do as many different things as possible,” Edwards added. “We’re using mainstays like Death Disco; events that are already happening at the Arches.”

Death Disco is a hugely popular night hosted under the grimy brickwork of the Arches. It’s famed for its electro excess and outlandish audiences, as well as visuals from Pointless Creations.

Edwards continued: “We also have Modeselektor coming in to do a big club night with their visuals guys - called PFADFINDEREI, believe it or not - who are a very evocative German VJ collective.

“We’ll be pushing up the visual element to them, incorporating some film footage; making it a fully immersive AV experience.”

The Glasgow Film Festival runs between 12 and 22 February. Tickets will go on sale from 21 January at midnight. Go to the Glasgow Film Festival homepage fo more information.
