The Mill music venues, situated on Glasgow’s Great Western Road and Niddry Street Edinburgh; are quietly, or not so quietly, taking part in what could be the music industry’s next big revolution.

With the advent of downloadable music, live video streaming and social networking sites, such as Myspace, it has never been easier for a recording artist export their music to an ever widening audience.

Increasingly industry insiders are looking for the next innovation that will allow them to promote their music to the public in increasingly effective ways.  And it seems that the Mill venues, here in Scotland, may be part of that latest leap.

Bluetooth Bands

Bluetooth technology allows video and music tracks to be sent between mobile phones and the Mill have took this to the next step. Artists performing at the venue will now have their music sent by Bluetooth to guests at the venue.

The tracks will be produced by well-known music producer Tony Dugan who has worked with the likes of Belle and Sebastian and Super Furry Animals

This will allow upcoming bands to have their music heard by a wider audience allowing them to generate more fans and maybe even that record producer who pops into the Mill for a coffee.

This innovative new platform for broadcast could set a trend among music venues and provide an additional platform to the likes of websites such as Myspace, Bebo and YouTube.

Unsigned act Be a Familiar are excited about the opportunity to reach a wider audience. They can target those who might not be at the gig, “who have just come out for a drink then all of a sudden they have a track by us and they might check out our Myspace and come to the next gig.”
