Carnage almost caused carnage between our Moviejuice reviewers this week, with the film buffs split on whether it was actually funny, or simply something to be laughed at for all the wrong reasons.
Starring Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly, the movie - directed by Roman Polanski - is based on the play God of Carnage by French playwright Yasmina Reza.
It centres on two pairs of parents who decide to hold a ‘cordial’ meeting after their sons are involved in a fight.
Stuck in a room together for hours, it turns out it’s not just the children who are capable of childish, erratic behaviour…
Moviejuice presenter Grant Lauchlan said: “For me, I don’t know if it quite worked. I don’t know if there was something lost in translation. I thought all the performances were terrific but it just didn’t work for me.
Janice Forsyth, on the other hand, loved it.
She said: “I didn’t know it was a play when I went to see it, but I quickly guessed it was, but it’s an acting master class.”
Graeme Virtue said: “It’s a chance to see four fantastic actors all behaving really, really badly.
“It seems a little bit claustrophobic being in the same apartment for the whole film.”
Defending the flick, Janice insisted: “We mustn’t forget it’s a comedy. I laughed out loud several times.”
With that, the star ratings were in, causing a bit of a “square go” between Grant and Janice. Team Grant or Team Janice? You decide. Carnage is in cinemas now.
