Coriolanus: The Moviejuice extended review Coriolanus stars Ralph Fiennes and Gerard Butler in a modern-day version of the Shakespeare tragedy. The story tells of a revered and feared Roman General who seeks revenge on the city of Rome.

For the reviews this week Moviejuice presenter Grant Lauchlan has been joined by presenter and journaliast Janice Forsyth and film critic for the Scotsman, Alistair Harkness.

Ralph Fiennes has been obsessed with Coriolanus since he played him on stage many years ago. Now, in his first work as a director he brings the tragedy to a very modern setting. Does it work?

Janice Forsyth had reservations but said: “I think it does. I didn’t know the play, but it really came to life. They way they’ve shot it it’s like the Arab spring – really contemporary.”

Alistair Harkness agreed: “There are elements that look like the Occupy Movement, but it was filmed 18 months before. He’s contemporised it by making it a modern war film.”

The highly-physical movie scored highly with all the team. Each awarded them four points from a possible five.

Alistair added: “It’s the most exciting Shakespeare adaptation for some time.”

WAR FILM WINS BATTLE
