Haywire is about a black ops super soldier seeking payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission, and stars MMA fighter Gina Carano in her first role backed by an all-star cast.
For the reviews this week Moviejuice presenter Grant Lauchlan has been joined by Siobhan Synnot, journalist and film critic for Scotland on Sunday, and Glasgow-born movie screenwriter Sergio Casci.
During the review, Sergio explains: “Gina Carano, I loved. If Chuck Norris and Catherine Zeta Jones had a love child, she would be it."
However, for Grant she didn’t have the star power to sustain his involvement: “I don’t care what happens to her, and there’s just nothing about her that makes me want to stay until the very end.”
Siobhan also offers up her own opinion: “I think she’s got a lot of charisma, I just think she has the range of a turnip. Fighting, she’s a star – not fighting, don’t really buy it.
“I suppose as well it’s a Steven Soderberg film – a director who always deals with interesting issues, and layer upon layer, but not really here. It just seems to be a poor man’s The Bourne Identity. Angelina Jolie’s Salt without any pepper.”
So what else did the trio have to say - and did the film's Scottish Ewan McGregor fare well under their estimation? To find out tune into Moviejuice on STV tonight at 8pm.
