Back in 2009 The Hangover became the surprise comedy smash of the summer, covering it’s own budget in it’s opening weekend and going on to earn a fortune.
It seemed inevitable then that a sequel would be on its way and on May 26 The Hangover Part II hit UK cinema screens.
Following much the same premise as the original, Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug head out for a quiet, pre-wedding brunch, and wake up with no clue about what happened.
This time the action takes place in Thailand, with what Ed ‘Stu’ Helms called ‘a crazier vibe’:
“Everything just takes on a crazier vibe just because we’re here [in Thailand], but then the actual scale of the stunts and the scale of the production is so much bigger.
“It’s exciting and all of it is really, at the end of the day, to serve just these incredibly silly jokes.”
Bradley Cooper, who returns as Phil in the new movie, said: “We’re all so used to working with each other after the first one that it was even easier, much easier than the first movie.
“It really feels like we’re all making it together. There was never any ego in the first one but I certainly feel more comfortable.”
But while the cast enjoyed it, STV’s film critic Grant Lauchlan was slightly dubious. He said: “There are a few decent chuckles on offer but The Hangover Part II on the whole is pretty much a retread of what we’ve seen before.”
