Jack Sparrow is back in action as the latest instalment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise returns for a fourth adventure.
Directed by Rob Marshall, On Stranger Tides sees Captain Jack on a quest to find the elusive Fountain of Youth, only to find that Blackbeard and his daughter Angelica, played by Ian McShane and Penelope Cruz, are after it too.
Geoffrey Rush returns as Barbossa and Keith Richards pops up as Captain Teague, but there’s no sign of Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley, who played Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann in the previous movies.
After the convoluted and mind boggling third movie, On Stranger Tides lacks depth and inventive plot twists, but it’s the best of the sequels so far and if you love Johnny Depp you won’t be disappointed.
STV’s Grant Lauchlin spoke to Johnny Depp about making the fourth instalment:
“The idea of a fourth one after finishing Pirates 3, somewhere in the back of your head you were thinking, I sure hope so,” Johnny said.
“You always kind of expected that someone would come round a couple of years later and say, we have this idea for a scenario, which is exactly what happened, so I was very happy.”
