Bringing us one step closer to the ultimate superhero mash up in the Avengers is Thor, which spans the Marvel comic universe from present day Earth to the mystical realm of Asgard. Directed by Kenneth Brannagh, it’s an epic adventure mixing Norse mythology, science fiction, romance, action and shady espionage.
At the centre of the story is the mighty god of thunder Thor, played by Australian actor Chris Hemsworth, who is a powerful but arrogant warrior who’s reckless actions reignite an ancient war. As a result he’s banished to Earth by his father Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins, where he is forced to live among humans.
When the most dangerous villain of his world sends its darkest forces to invade Earth, Thor has to learn what it takes to be a true hero.
Other top name stars appearing in the movie include Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgard and Idris Elba.
Kenneth Branagh told STV’s Grant Laughlin: “Thor can never be boring, he’s just got too much passion going on and too much of a twinkle in his eye, but he’s got to understand what it takes to acquire some sense of proper leadership, and to do that he has to be brought to contemporary Earth. Thor is robbed of his powers and banished. He’s very much in his father’s bad books, almost tragically and almost finally so.”
Other top name stars appearing in the epic adventure are Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgard and Idris Elba.
Chris Hemsworth told STV his thoughts on Kenneth Brannagh directing the movie:
“His background is character and Shakespeare, so to come and do a huge blockbuster type film like this was I think genius,” he said.
