Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster discuss the ins and outs of Carnage New movie Carnage, directed by Roman Polanski, is a black comedy, based on the play God of Carnage by French playwright Yasmina Reza.

The story centres on two couples whose sons have been fighting. In a bid to sort out any animosity, the parents meet up to ‘discuss’ their sons’ issues.

But it’s not the children who have problems…

Stuck in the same room for hours, what started out as a civil discussion quickly descends into chaos – or rather, carnage.

Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly star and Jodie explained: “It’s a comedy of people’s manners and how they lose those manners.”

She added: “It’s so beautifully written this play and it’s dizzying, so it starts out in this polite way and then very quickly it starts gaining momentum…”

Kate spoke of Roman Polanski’s unique style of directing, saying: “What I didn’t realise, I think none of us could have counted on, was this thing that Roman did, which was have us all learn the script from start to finish – the entire movie script from start to finish like a play.

“And we staged the whole thing and I was personally really thrilled that we did cause it means that when we get onto the set we all know exactly what our physical positions are. Not only is that helpful to us in terms of where we’re at with the story, but it’s helpful to Roman.”
