Hollywood’s long love affair with Alexandre Dumas classic story of The Three Musketeers stretches back as far as 1903.
The tale of sword play and derring do is set in early 18th century Europe and centres on the hot-headed young d'Artagnan along with three formerly legendary but now down-on-their-luck musketeers.
Together they’re forced to defend a beautiful double-agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and leaving Europe in war.
Orlando Bloom told us: “We’ve taken this classic story and we’ve vamped it up a bit for the 2012 pop culture generation.
“It’s a very irreverent and fresh new telling.”
Although the film remains faithful to the original tale, there are some very modern twists.
“There’s a fine line between it becoming ridiculous and also being believable, but the essential storyline and the plot and the characters and their journeys remain the same.”
The Three Musketeers is out in cinemas now.
