Living legend Michael Caine has starred in some of the grittiest films of all time, but latest outing Cars 2 is something of a departure for him. Forget Get Carter and Harry Brown, this a kids’ film in its truest sense.
Speaking to STV’s Grant Lauchlan, he admitted that he took the role so that he would have something to show his grandchildren.
He said: “I did [The Muppets Christmas Carol] for their mother when she was a little baby, because I thought she’s going to say: ‘What do you do, daddy?’, and I haven’t got anything to show her. I can’t show her Get Carter and stuff. She’s only four.
“So I made The Muppet’s Christmas Carol; and I’ve made [Cars 2] for my grandchildren.”
Caine, who claims his greatest talent is survival in the movie industry, also admitted that Cars 2 is the first 3D film he has ever seen.
He said: “I’d never even seen a 3D film and I saw this movie yesterday, I’m going in, they give me the glasses, and I went: What are these for? They said it’s in 3D. I didn’t even know it was in 3D!”
He added: “I’m right at the cutting edge still, just going over the cutting edge.”
