As the curtain roll on the last Harry Potter film, actor Tom Felton admits that his relationship with bad boy Draco Malfoy has felt like a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde affair.
The 23-year-old played the youngest member of the Malfoy family in the Harry Potter series and says he feels very lucky to have conveyed the rollercoaster journey of the J.K Rowling’s conflicted character.
Speaking to STV’s film expert Grant Lauchlan, he said: “I think for the first five years, he was almost written purposely 2D for you to say ‘he is the bully, we all hate him’ and then you see this background where you then think ‘God, maybe I feel a bit sorry for him now because he doesn’t have it that easy’.
“He is conflicted inside about whether his loyalty lies with his family and his affiliation with Voldermort or his inner compulsion to help the students and the family he was once part of.
“Like Jekyll and Hyde, he does feel like my Hyde.”
Following on from the emotional and dark first instalment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Tom promises the follow-up film to be full of action.
“The difference between this one and the last one is how much action is in this one, it is crammed packed.
“It builds up to, what can only be described as a war, a huge battle at Hogwarts where the castle is being ripped apart and blown to pieces.”
He added: “It is a tear-jerker as well as being an action film with a great ending.”
