The wait for movie fans to see highly anticipated animated caper Brave is finally over, as Disney/Pixar’s latest offering opens in cinemas in Scotland today.
The build-up to the animated spectacular - which features the voices of stars including Kelly Macdonald, Emma Thompson, Robbie Coltrane and Billy Connolly - has been growing in intensity in recent weeks, with glitzy premieres in both LA and Edinburgh.
Now audiences north of the border will get the opportunity to see the tale about a feisty flame-haired Princess called Merida, who is determined to change the path that has been carved out for her in life, causing uproar in the Kingdom.
Capturing the spirit of girl power and what it ultimately means to make brave choices in life, the movie is expected to become a massive hit around the globe.
Based in mythical setting in the stunning Highlands, Brave is expected to draw people to Scotland in droves and estimates are being made that the animated caper will help boost the economy by around £140 million.
Speaking at the Brave premiere in Edinburgh, Robbie Coltrane, who voices the character of Lord Dingwall, explained why he thinks audiences will fall in love with Scotland after watching the movie.
He said: “It’s terribly important for Scotland and our landscape and how beautiful lit is. Those of us who live here we sometimes take it for granted,” he explained.
“But when you see it through the eyes of people who live 5,000 miles away and have sat down and drawn it for months on end and re-imagined it, you suddenly realise we do have the most beautiful country in the world.”
Brave will hit cinemas in Scotland today (August 3) and audiences in the rest of the UK will be able to see the film from August 13 when it goes on general release.
