The Avengers – known as Avengers Assemble – is released in the UK next week, and is set to unleash an army of superheroes on us all in the one film. So what’s it all about?
Samuel L Jackson, who plays Nick Fury, explained: “The Avengers is about an ordinary world that has some extraordinary people in it.”
The movie stars a whole host of A-list actors in superhero roles including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk).
In the film Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. bring together a team of superheroes to form The Avengers – and help save the earth from Loki and his army.
You might have thought it would be hard fitting all those big names into one movie – but apparently the group got on like a house on fire.
Evans said: “We’re probably going to have to make a few more of these.
“We’re probably going to have to exist as a unit, on and off screen, for some years to come. The random luck that we all happen to get along so phenomenally well is just so fantastic.”
He added: “As a unit, in Albuquerque, where nobody’s from, I think off-set we really bonded as a team.”
Ruffalo is making his superhero debut in the movie, in a role recently played by Edward Norton and before that Edward Norton. Was it a push to get angry enough for the role as Hulk?
He told us: “I have to say I was the original angry young man, in my 20s and teens, so I know what that is.
“With time you get that just pummelled out of you, and so I’ve cooled out a bit – also having three kids, you have to learn how to be patient.”
What was it like doing the action scenes? Johansson explained: “You bash your head, you bruise your legs, you can’t turn your neck.”
Co-star Renner added: “I have an issue with anybody being physical with a woman. I had some problems beating on you [turning to Scarlett], it was weird.”
Johansson joked: “It didn’t seem that way during rehearsal!”
