Rampart: extended Moviejuice review

Presenter Grant Lauchlan was joined in the Moviejuice studios for this week’s reviews by film critics Siobhan Synnot and Alistair Harkness.

Set in 1999 Los Angeles, in Rampart a veteran police officer Dave Brown, the last of the renegade cops, works to take care of his family – and struggles for his own survival.

Grant started: “Woody Harrelson, he is mesmerising – really, really good in this. He’s the best thing in the film for me.

“I wasn’t hugely bowled over by the film, but he makes it worth watching.”

Siobhan added: “There’s an interesting story to be told about Woody Harrelson himself. Too smart to be a leading man? Too bald to be a leading man?

“Who knows, but he’s a really underrated actor and he’s great in Rampart.”

Alistair was a fan of the film. He said: “What I like about it is it looks like he’s going to be giving this huge amazing performance all the way through it, but what happens is that he becomes a little bit quieter as the film goes on.”

So, time for star ratings. Grant gave it a “strong” three. Alistair would give it a four as a “grown-up”, dirty cop movie, “and an intelligent one too”.

Meanwhile Siobhan would “say Cheers to Woody”, but thanks to the plot opted for three out of five.
