Robert Pattinson says 'Edward Cullen would so not approve' of Bel Ami role Robert Pattinson is about to hit our screens in Bel Ami – a movie set in 19th Century Paris which sees Rob’s character romp his way through a string of stunning women.

Speaking to the Herald Scotland, ahead of the film’s preview at the Glasgow Film Festival, Robert said: “There are lots of attractive women in this film. Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman and Kristen Scott Thomas... And I sleep with all of them!" It’s clearly a tough job.

The part of lothario Georges Duroy is quite a departure from the heroic vampire, Edward Cullen, Rob shot to fame playing in the hugely successful Twilight franchise.

While Twilight has afforded the 25-year-old British actor opportunities (and wealth) beyond his wildest dreams, Robert occasionally wonders what life would have been like, and what parts he would now be playing, had he not accepted the role.

He told the paper: "Doing something like Twilight opens doors and it closes others. You can say, “Oh if I was still unknown, then no-one would judge me,” but at the same time, nobody would give a s*** either.

"It's a weird little balance. And, most of the time, you are just completely guessing what people do, so I suppose doing scripts that you think are good is the way to go. And that's what I thought about Bel Ami.

“With Bel Ami, though, I guess there is something quite fun about going from Edward Cullen to playing a guy who pretty much abuses women to get money out of them.

"Edward so wouldn't approve! So, yes, I thought that was a funny irony. But the story, independently, is great, and I only thought about the irony afterwards.”

Despite being one of the most in-demand actors in the world at the moment, Robert finds very few scripts he actually likes and he is extremely cautious about which parts he takes on.

Speaking to Moviejuice presenter Grant Lauchlan in November, Robert said: “I did a move with David Cronenberg (Cosmopolis) and that’s coming out sometime the beginning of next year (2012), but I hardly ever find scripts I like.

“I don’t like things that come out either. It’s an easy way to decide cause the two things I like a year, I do them.”

Bel Ami must be pretty special for Robert to have agreed to take part. Either that, or he looked at the fine list of actresses who had signed up and it seemed like a no brainer! Judge for yourself when Bel Ami hits Glasgow Cineworld on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 February. More information on tickets here.
