Moviejuice presenter Grant Lauchlan and his fellow film critics Janice Forsyth and Graeme Virtue have been to see Journey 2:The Mysterious Island, but was it a journey worth taking (sorry, Grant’s joke)?
A sequel to the 2008 film Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Journey 2 stars wrestler The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzmán and Kristin Davis. Quite a line-up. But is the movie as striking as the cast-list reads?
Hutcherson plays Sean Anderson who teams up with his stepfather (The Rock) to find his missing grandfather, who is believed to be on a mythical island.
There’s action, romance, stunning scenery and giant flying bumble bees – what more could a person want?
Graeme said: “I am one of the few people, I think, who saw the first movie, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, which was a decent enough 3D flick, but visually was quite boring as they were underground all the time.
“What they’ve done with this one is take it to a lush, vibrant, beautiful looking island so there’s a lot on the screen for you to enjoy and if you’re a big fan of The Rock, like I think most men are, he’s pretty good in it too.”
Grant said: “If you were eight years old and you go and see this, I think I would actually be quite scared.”
“I know a bunch of boys who are aged between 10 and 14 and this would be the perfect day out for them with their parents,” Janice said, before adding: “It’s kind of old school, even the 3D is not threatening and you’ve got Michael Caine riding a bee, zooming through the sky.”
So how many star’s will our film buffs give this flick? Watch and find out.
