Though she doesn’t appear in the new prequel films, actress Liv Tyler couldn’t wait to see her friend from Lord of the Rings at the premiere for The Hobbit – and smell their hair...
Stars of The Hobbit, including Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis and director Peter Jackson, braved the cold for the film's New York premiere.
It felt more like a family reunion for the cast and crew, including Liv, who starred in the Lord of the Rings trilogy – but was not part of the franchise's latest incarnation.
She said: "I'm really excited to see Fran (Walsh) and Philippa (Boyens - writers/producers) because I haven't seen them for 10 years and we email and gossip all the time.
"I can’t wait to hug them and smell their hair – I know that sounds really weird – but they're my dear friends and such a big part of my life.
She added: “I can't wait to see Peter (Jackson), and I can't believe it's been so many years. I can't wait to see the film and visit Middle Earth again."
In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Bilbo (Martin Freeman) has no desire to hit the road after a company of dwarves turn up to enlist him on a quest to retake a dwarf mountain kingdom from the dragon that decimated it.
The first of three prequels to The Lord of the Rings movies, it opens in the UK on December 13.
