Sean Connery is 80 years old today and, my, how well he looks.
Must be that good Scottish air (well, he lives in the Bahamas but is staunchly proud of his roots so we’re sure he won’t mind us putting it down to the Celtic breeze).
As well as being a fine actor, the star is often referred to as one of the most handsome men on the planet, particularly by females who love nothing more than a big, gruff, Scottish accent.
He was named People magazines's Sexiest Man Alive in 1989, when he was 59, and Sexiest Man of the Century ten years later. So it seems that in 2010, it’s only fitting we crown him Scotland’s Top Totty.
There was public outcry last year – well a few people commented – when Sir Sean failed to make it into Homecoming Scotland’s ‘Hottest Scotsman’ poll.
Over one million people voted and Atonement and Last King of Scotland star, James McAvoy took the title, closely followed by dishy Doctor, David Tennant, then Ewan McGregor and Gerard Butler.
The poll was actually conducted to celebrate Sean’s 79th birthday and he never even got a look in.

Commenting on STV’s website about the poll, fan Fraochale said: “What no Craig Ferguson? Oh wait he gave up his UK citizenship and became an American. Though McAvoy is nice to look at he holds no candle to Sir Sean or Gerard Butler. Must be a lot of short lassies in Scotland as James is wee little man.”
Another viewer called Smoak added: “I STRONGLY agree with Fraochale - he does not hold a candle to Sir Sean! I have loved him since I was a kid!”
So in your eightieth year Sir Sean, the girls in the stv.tv office would like to wish you not only a happy birthday, but also award you with the title of Scotland’s Top Totty 2010 (extremely classy award bubble wrapped and in the post to your Bahamas mansion). We can only pray that our men look anything like you when they reach the ripe old age of 80. Slainte mhaith, Sir!
