Carey Mulligan tried to get herself a job during this year's Oscars ceremony because she hasn't got any work coming up.

Carey Mulligan used the Oscars to make work contacts.

The British star, who was nominated for Best Actress at this year's Academy Awards for her role in 'An Education', admits she hoped the prestigious ceremony would boost her career prospects.

She said: "I haven't got a job yet - so I used the Oscars to try and get a job. That was my main aim for the event - to get a job. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed."

The 24-year-old actress does have a number of movies coming out this year, including 'Brighton Rock' with Dame Helen Mirren and 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' with boyfriend Shia LaBeouf.

Carey is rumoured to be taking on the role of Eliza Doolittle in 'My Fair Lady', but details have yet to be confirmed.

Earlier this week Carey confirmed she was please Sandra Bullock won the Best Actress Oscar because she is "amazing".

She said: "I was kind of remarkably calm, I kind of felt like it wasn't going to happen. She's so amazing, she really is and she's been so kind to me, like a friend, so I was so happy for her."
