Carey Mulligan is "happy" Sandra Bullock won Best Actress at the Oscars.

The 'An Education' actress, who was the youngest star to be nominated in the category this year, admits she wasn't expected to win the award and hadn't even prepared a speech.

The 24-year-old star said: "It isn't disappointment, just being there is so incredible.

"I was pretty sure I wasn't going to get it. It was pretty evident. My publicist had written down a list just before I went on stage at the beginning and said, 'This is just names, just have this', so that was in bag so that if it happened I could take it out.

"I was kind of remarkably calm, I kind of felt like it wasn't going to happen. She's so amazing, she really is and she's been so kind to me, like a friend, so I was so happy for her."

Sandra picked up the prize for her performance in 'The Blind Side', in which she plays interior designer Leigh Anne Tuohy, a fiery mother of two who befriends a homeless boy who goes on to become an American football player.
