Scottish actor Gerard Butler has taken to the red carpet in his hometown of Glasgow for the premiere of his latest film Law Abiding Citizen.

Butler not only stars as a lead character in the film, but is also the producer with the movie being the first release of his production company, Evil Twins.

There’s even a sly Glasgow reference in Butler’s character name – Clyde Shelton. Shelton is an engineer who goes on a trail of revenge after a man isn’t convicted for the murder of his wife and daughter.

A big crowd lined the streets outside Glasgow’s Cineworld complex on Sunday night to try and catch a glimpse of the 40-year-old, who has shot to prominence in Hollywood in recent years.

The Butler clan was also well represented inside for the screening with over 70 family and friends of the star turning up to support their man. He was also accompanied by his mum on the red carpet and the pair posed for pictures.

Shunning the traditional UK premiere venue of London’s Leicester Square, Butler - dressed in full national costume - was overwhelmed with the support he received from the home crowd.

“It’s been extra special here tonight,” Butler told STV. “It was a big wave that hit me as I got out of the car. There was a lot of noise.

“To be able to come back to Glasgow and see that amount of people outside… you can’t ask for more than that.”
