Robert White won The Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality at Friday night’s awards at the Edinburgh Fringe.
He claimed the honour due to his enthusiastic unconventionality and for being - in his own words - “the only gay, Aspergers, quarter Welsh, webbed-toed, dyslexic pianist debuting this Fringe”.
The award was presented by well loved alternative comedian Simon Munnery, who took to the stage and related a humorous anecdote about Malcolm Hardee, the late "godfather of British alternative comedy" and a man apparently with an eye for talent and pranks.
Receiving the award, White said: “A colossal thank you, and hello people.
“Well, up until now I’ve always tried to be funny, but I suppose this will give me the opportunity to not be funny, and pretend I’m experimental, so it’s a tribute to Malcolm really. Thank you, and goodnight.,”
Robert White's Outrageously Peculiar Organ was on at the Gilded Balloon, and showcase the comedian’s curious musical inventions and abstract creations.
