The Edinburgh Festival Fringe has earned a reputation for kooky performers and quirky acts.
But this year the venues will be just as bizarre, as entertainers set up their stalls in flats, sweet shops, and even a bathroom.
Comedienne Holly Burn is hosting her stand-up routine in her New Town apartment. The intimacy forged with her audience is only one benefit of this approach, as it also lets her circumvent hefty venue bills.
Holly told STV News: "I have loads of fun and I think the audience have loads of fun. It's just exciting and interesting and innovative, I hope."
Another comedy double act, Patch Hyde and Adam Tempest, perform their show from a fudge shop.
Patch said: "A lot of people seem to think this is a massive convoluted show all about fudge but fudge is not really all that funny. It's basically 'Hello, here's some fudge' - everyone gets fudge, by the way, you should come if you like fudge. You get free fudge."
Other unconventional venues include a canal barge, a hotel swimming pool, and an uninhabited island in the Firth of Forth. Also, a bus. A pink bus. A big pink bus.
Which might seem weird - but not as weird as another location: a city centre public toilet, the perfect place to enjoy Samuel Beckett, obviously.
The Fringe - coming soon to a loo near you.
