Hello, what’s your name, and what on earth are you going to be doing in Edinburgh this August?
Hello, my name is Benny Boot. I am telling jokes in Edinburgh. These are my jokes, not mini-documentaries.
Tell us more about your show
It's bringing people into my world with a series Micro Stories (Jokes), delivered in a quirky way. KAPOW!
Also, did you ever play NBA JAM arcade game. Remember if you sunk 3 baskets in a row the commentator would say, "HE'S ON FIRE!"...and you could shoot from anywhere on the court and it'd go in? Well, I have a similar thing in place for my show.
The audience will be briefed - if I do 3 jokes in a row that get an amazing audience reaction - like it can't be just a good reaction, I mean applause and shit - then theoretically I could do ANY joke and get a laugh. ... theoretically...or reviews will say "Benny Boot is a sick racist"
If you’re doing a marathon Fringe run, how are you preparing for your marathon Fringe run?
Not stopping for interviews, make sure you stay in front of all the demented charity runners in fancy dress and stick with the Kenyans!!...that made no sense.
Food and/or drink – what do you take to keep you going through the madness?
Good question STV. When I am up at Edinburgh Festival, I choose to drink Lucozade. Mmmm, Lucozade, puts back what the sweat takes out. Because you're worth it. ?Maybe it's Maybelline?" - That's not example of what I eat or drink...that's an example of me going crazy.
London’s taken some of the hype with the Olympics this year – what do you think is the best way for Edinburgh to grab it back?
*shrugs* Bomb threats?
If you’ve been before, what’s your favourite part of the Edinburgh festivals?
Ok, serious answer this time. Everyone who GOES! Everyone is SO friendly...its beautiful.
What would be your biggest piece of advice to any performers coming to Edinburgh for the first time?
'Trust me, you'll get a TV deal, movie deals...the President of Comedy will probably Knight you. This where dreams come true!' *Benny sobs* That's what I was told...
Whoever else are you most excited to see in Edinburgh this year?
Joel Dommett, Chris Martin, Carl Donnelly, Pat Butcher, Paul Sweeney, Eric Lampaert....I love these dudes.
What’s been your most memorable festival experience?
Every gig I did at SPANK last year was pretty sick!!!. Also, last year, one particularly SHWEET one at Late N Live where I did a set with Damo on drum (Dead Cat Bounce drummer) and James on Guitar (Abandoman Guitarist)
Any favourite Scottish word/phrase?
The one that sounds like bag pipes and the IRN-BRU thing...you know the one? How does it go? Something, something - f**k it never mind, you had to be there. Good times!!
And what would be your best tip for any punters coming to their first Fringe?
Um...like, ask around, ask other punters which acts to see. That word of mouth thing is good...unless it paints me, Benny Boot, in a negative light...then, ah, what the f**k would they know - I wouldn't trust 'em.
