Comedian Alex Horne is doing three shows at the Edinburgh Fringe this year including his own solo show and jazzed-based variety show The Horne Section – he talked to STV about how he manages to cram it all in.

Hailed as a “beguiling blend of the smart and stupid”, Alex has performed a number of solo shows in Edinburgh in the past,

“I’m in three shows – I’ve got three venues this year! I’m in the Pleasance doing a show called Seven Years in the Bathroom, which is about what it says, spending seven years in the bathroom. I’m trying to recreate a whole human life in an hour, going through life bit by bit using statistics – and also it’s quite funny.

“I’m also doing a show called The Horne Section in the Spiegeltent, which I think is 130 years old and is the circus tent in George Square Gardens, at 11pm. That’s very fun: it’s me and a band and other guests.

“I’m also doing another show at the end [on Friday August 26] called The Taskmaster. That’s where I’ve got 10 other comedians and me, and I’ve been setting them challenges for a year, and we have a results/reveal show.”

Those involved in this year’s Taskmaster II include Tim Key, Mark Watson, Josie Long, Henning Wehn, Stuart Goldsmith, Bruce Dessau, Dan Atkinson, Lloyd Langford, Joe Wilkinson and Steve Hall.

How does he cope with such a hectic schedule? Alex explained: “It means I finish one show and then go straight off to do another show, so it means I’m quite buzzing, as long as the first show goes well. If it doesn’t it’ll be tough...

“It’s nice to have one show where it’s just me and then one show with five other men to share it with, so I think it’s the best of both worlds, but my wife is less sure of that, because she has to bear the brunt of a sleeping man the rest of the day.”
