Abi Titmuss has caught the Edinburgh festivals bug, and has spoken to STV about her acting return this year with the “dark and tense” Dusk Rings a Bell, in which she stars alongside Scottish actor Paul Blair.
She told us: “It’s amazing to be back here, I’m so excited. I really fell in love with Edinburgh and the festival last year and I’m very, very lucky.”
Abi was at the Assembly in 2010 with John Godber's Up and Under, and has returned this year with a very different proposition.
Abi explained: “I’m doing a play called Dusk Rings a Bell, and it’s by Stephen Belber. It’s a beautifully controlled American play that captures the emotion of a chance meeting between a man and a woman, 25 years after they have a teenage summer romance.
“It’s a play that’s steeped in possibility, and really reminds us to take responsibility for our choices.”
With Dusk Rings a Bell American playwright Belber continues his exploration of the roots of hate crimes and homophobia within American males that he first explored in the seminal The Laramie Project.
It questions the effectiveness of the penal system and whether the systems of 'restorative justice' are truly effective at forcibly eliminating prejudice.
Abi also said of the play: “It’s myself and Paul Blair, who’s a fantastic Scottish actor you might know – I actually saw him in Edinburgh when I was here last year and he was brilliant.
“It is quite a dark and tense play, which is really exciting to do. It’s a real challenge for me and I’m just loving it.”
- Dusk Rings a Bell is on at Assembly George Square One until August 29 at 2pm.
