We talked to comedians Iain Stirling, Hari Kondabolu, Paul Currie and Phil Wang about their appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe as part of stand-up showcase The Comedy Zone – only for the interview to be interrupted by car reversing into a wall in the background before driving off.
Back for its 21st consecutive year, The Comedy Zone is the Fringe’s original and longest-running stand-up showcase, and viewed by many as the most prestigious.
This year it has put together another strong line-up. Scotland’s Iain Stirling was a Chortle Student Comedy Award finalist, and is currently starring on CBBC as well as supporting the likes of Rhod Gilbert on tour.
Phil Wang, from Bath, was winner of the 2010 Chortle Student Comedian of the Year Award and a member of the prestigious Cambridge Footlights.
New York’s Hari Kondabolu has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live in the US and Russell Howard's Good News in the UK, while Northern Ireland’s Paul Currie has won the Magners Derry Comedy Festival open mic competition.
In the video interview the guys show the sort of “really varied and interesting” chemistry that they’ve brought to this year’s showcase, and how “they’re bouncing off each other’s force”.
And as the interview was being done, a car in the background reverses into a wall for a bit of a You’ve Been Framed moment. Let’s see if the £50’s in the post...
- The Comedy Zone is on at Pleasance Courtyard at 10.45pm until August 28
