Oliver Meech brings his new show Open Brain Surgery to the Edinburgh Festival this year.  An intriguing mix of magic and psychology, the show promises to be an interesting night.

"There's some surgery that goes on but I'm a magician originally who's interested in neuroscience so, through magical means, there is a bit of surgery but there's also lots of tricks and strange neurological phenomena."

Meech studied Psychology at Oxford University and has developed his trickery through the Magic Circle society.  These credentials along with his natural creative impulse mean that his Fringe show is set to be a thoroughly entertaining experience.

He said: "science tends to be all about how things work and magic's often about concealing but, certainly in terms of strange things that can happen with the brain, they're quite unusual and they're quite surreal and magical in their own rights."

Science and magic are normally considered complete polar opposites, but Meech is convinced it's a match made in entertainment heaven:

"I think it's quite an interesting mix in that they're both warped versions of the world"

Meech was kind enough to give STV a preview of one of the tricks from Open Brain Surgery which is showing at the Laughing Horse at the Three Sisters in Maggie's Chambers.  The show is free and non-ticketed so feel free to go along at 6:30pm between the 4th and 28th August.  For more information visit the Fringe website.
