As the Fringe festival kicks off in style, stv.tv caught up with one rising Scottish star set to take Edinburgh by storm.
Chris Forbes was a finalist in the Scottish Comedian of the Year competition last year and has won rave reviews for his sketch show, How Do I Get Up There?
With his dry sense of humour Chris quickly swapped aspirations to become a basketball star, for the lure of stand-up comedy – brave choice.
Thrown in at the deep end, the charming twenty eight year old revealed his first ever comedy gig was at the stand with none other than Frankie Boyle. This would have been extremely daunting… had Chris recognised Frankie.
Fast forward a few years and the pair now play football together in the Comedians Community football team, but this is no laughing matter.
With players like Kevin Bridges and Gary Tank Commander taking to the field, these funny men take their matches very seriously.
Chris joked: “Three well placed tackles and there will be some good places for us newcomers.”
It doesn’t look like Forbes will have to resort to dirty tactics to get to the top.
He recently supported Michael McIntyre when he was trying out new material at The Stand comedy Club in Glasgow.
Chris revealed: “We all sat backstage with Michael in his five hundred pound suit. He seemed like a very nice man, but he does talk like that in real life.”
With the List reviewing How Do I Get up There as “Rocketing towards wide-spread recognition” and the Scotsman awarding the show 4 stars, Chris Forbes and his fellow sketch show performers James Kirk and Kevin Mains, are certainly ones to catch at this year’s Fringe.
You can see Chris in action as part of the 'Best Of Scottish' showcase at the Stand Comedy Club Edinburgh on the 9th, 10th and 27th August.
He will be performing with the sketch group How Do I Get Up There? at The Stand Comedy Club on the 16th August and taking part in the coveted Take The Mic Grand Final on the 16th - 22nd August at the Caledonian Brewery .
