Louis Walsh has revealed that he thinks no singing show on TV can compete with The X Factor, because they’ll “never be as good”.

Speaking just four days before the programme gets ready for a spectacular return, the veteran judge spoke about his delight at its return.

“Ultimately there is no show on TV like The X Factor — a lot of shows try to copy it, like The Voice, but they will never be as good,” Louis told Radio Times.

“I got bored after the chairs stopped turning on that show. Because it’s not just about the voice — it’s about likeability and personality, passion. It was no fun at all — I don’t know what Tom Jones was doing on that show because he was lost.”

Louis – who is the only remaining judge on the panel – will be joined this year by Gary Barlow and Tulisa Contostavlos, who both made their X Factor debuts last year, as well as new girl Nicole Scherzinger, a former UK X Factor guest panellist as well as a previous X Factor USA judge.

And the Irish music manager didn’t hold back when asked what he thinks of his colleagues.

Speaking about N-Dubz star and solo singer Tulisa, Louis said: “She is a bit rough round the edges and when they announced she was on the panel I was expecting a chav in a tracksuit - which is what we got - but she’s a lot of fun.”

But Louis also has huge admiration for the talented 24-year-old, commenting: “She is the bold girl next door who can really sing and I love her because she’s the most honest judge I’ve sat next to; what you see on screen is what you get.”

Louis also gushed about fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger’s beauty and the “incredibly talented” Gary Barlow, who made his name in boyband Take That.
