Hello, what’s your name, and what on earth are you going to be doing in Edinburgh this August?
My name is Dan Mitchell and I am doing my debut hour of stand-up, called Free Egg.
Tell us more about your show...
It's a surreal journey into my mind as it unravels, starved of internet and full of illness. It features seagulls, Michael Ball and breakfast. It's basically me showing off with a plot and various helmets.
How are you preparing for your marathon Fringe run?
By sitting fully clothed in a cold shower to build up immunity to the rain, and learning to live on adrenaline and caffeine.
Food and/or drink – what do you take to keep you going through the madness?

If you’ve been before, what’s your favourite part of the Edinburgh festivals?
The range of things to see. There truly is something for everyone. Also, it's the perfect opportunity to try something you've never thought of watching before.
What would be your biggest piece of advice to any performers coming to Edinburgh for the first time?
Be prepared to not sleep properly. And perform in front of audiences you can count on one hand. It's tough, but worth it.
Whoever else are you most excited to see in Edinburgh this year?
I think I'm going to wander round aimlessly and see whatever I can on a whim. That said, I really want to see Stewart Lee – he's amazing, and Elis James who is effortlessly funny.
What’s been your most memorable festival experience?
Living with a Slovenian folk band called Terrafolk. They would keep me entertained all night playing drinking tunes. One even played two flutes with his nose. It was my first time there and showed me what an eclectic experience it could be
Any favourite Scottish word/phrase?
“Bawbag” and “in batter”, but not together.
