Sunshine on Leith and I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) both featured in the list of top Scottish tracks selected by the public for last year’s Scotland’s Greatest Album on STV – and now the Reid twins are back with a new album, and about to go back on tour.
They also roped in a comedy star to come up with a hilarious video for them! Craig explained: “The new single’s called Spinning Around in the Air, and it’s the first track from the new album, which is called Like Comedy.
“We did a video for it a couple of weeks ago in Giffnock, directed by Matt Lucas, who got us dressed up as two old ladies making punch to get the 50th wedding anniversary party going.
“He makes a wee appearance at the end as the arresting officer, as we’re taken into the police car.”
So how did they feel about their costumes for the video? Charlie said: “We were mentally prepared we were going to do it, because I think Matt had mugged us into doing it.
“He had suggested there was going to be these two old ladies making punch – and then he suggested perhaps we could be the two old ladies, so it was a slow introduction.
“It began to dawn on us that we were going to have to go through with it, but it was absolutely hilarious.
“It was funny putting the stuff on, the reaction from everybody else when we were doing the filming itself. And then looking at each other was a bit surreal.”
Craig added: “It was great. We’ve known Matt for a number of years, he’s a Proclaimers fan, and we worked on the Peter Kay video with him as well, and he’s a good guy.”
The brothers told us about the how the title Like Comedy reflects on not taking things quite so seriously as they get older – and also revealed what their own favourite Proclaimers track is. They also talked about their pride at having two tracks on Scotland’s Greatest Album.
Of their future plans, Craig said: “We’ve got a busy summer, we’ve got festivals all over, and then we’ve got a major British tour in October and November, we’re going to Singapore as well, we’re going to Dubai, we might be going to Australia, so there’s a lot of stuff this year.
“We haven’t really played any gigs for a couple of years – in July it’ll be two years since we’ve played, so we’re looking forward to getting back out there.”
