Kate Middleton and Prince William: the royal couple one year on

Kate Middleton and Prince William have just celebrated their first anniversary as man and wife, but unlike other newlyweds, the couple has had every last detail of their first year of marriage played out for all to see.

There has been intense public interest in Kate and Wills ever since they said “I do” at Westminster Abbey on April 29 last year.

But rather than be fazed by the attention, the royal pair have taken to their new roles like ducks to water, with Kate in particular credited with breathing fresh life into what many had previously regarded as an outdated institution.

Tonight viewers will get a chance to relive the highlights of Kate and William’s amazing first year of marriage, in a special documentary on STV.

William and Kate: The First Year gives a unique insight into the couple’s marriage, charting their journey from the moment middle-class Catherine Middleton made history and married into the most famous family in the world, earning the title of Duchess of Cambridge

In the last 12 months the Duchess, better known simply as Kate, has marked many milestones, such as her first official overseas tour with Prince, making her first solo speech, and carrying out numerous visits to charities and organisations, including accompanying the Queen on a Diamond Jubilee engagement.

The public also anxiously awaits the news that a baby may be on the way – although it looks like we might need to wait a little longer before we hear the pitter-patter of tiny royal feet.

Whatever happens next in the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's lives, we'll no doubt be gripped by their enchanting story.

William and Kate: The First Year is on STV on Tuesday May 1 at 8pm. Missed it? Catch up on the STV Player.
