X Factor contestant Janet Devlin has denied any knowledge that she’s related to legendary grunge singer Kurt Cobain – after his widow Courtney Love made the strange claim.

Erratic star Love – who has been involved in other bizarre rants recently – made the claim when talking about her legal battle over Nirvana’s legacy to NME.

Talking about researching her late husband’s family tree, she said: "I've had to discover exactly who the Cobains are. [Janet] is a cousin of Kurt's ancestors from County Tyrone, so in effect she's Kurt and Frances' cousin."

However, Janet’s family seem to be unaware of the connection.

The singer herself said: “I'm not aware of any family connection but it’s pretty cool if that is the case.”

The connection would raise eyebrows, not least since Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit is set to battle X Factor winners Little Mix’s Cannonball for Christmas number one this year.
